Rip Off London

I'm in London this week and I'll be lucky if I'll break even. I'll probably make a small loss. There is no reason that gigs in London should pay any less than gigs around the rest of the country but they do and they pay considerably less.

If you live out of town like me then coming to London is like taking a 50% cut in wages.

Tonight I'm being paid £80 for a gig that's going to cost me about £80 to do.

The only justification for the low wages is the fact you can work for more clubs in a night in London.

This is the argument. We'll rip you off because you can go and get ripped off several times in one night and end up with about the same amount of money you would have been paid for one gig out of town.
I'm sitting in my family run B&B and it's lovely. Some days I can't think what to blog but I have to write as it's the only way I'll be able to knock that F*in trinket maker off the search engines.

London This Week

It's raining in Liverpool today and I have a day of writing before heading to London for a week of unprofitable stand up sets.

Once I've paid for my hotel and accommodation I will come away from the City with about "no pounds" for my troubles. Commission will be deducted from my gross fee.

I will however feel better in the knowledge that I've helped many venues sell a great deal of beer.

Stand up comedy work in London is essential a charitable act for any comic who lives out of town. We try and make the cynical, know it all, audiences crack a smile in return for the "feel good inside" pleasure of giving.
