Australian Tennis Open 2010

This Spring Tom Binns will be in Australia performing at the Adelaide Arts Festival. The Australian open tennis is one of the most challenging of all the Grand Slam tournaments due to the often extreme hot weather that often descends on Melbourne each January when the tournament is played. Being the first Grand Slam Tennis Tournament on the international tennis calendar the tournament attracts most of the big name players on the international circuit regardless of the heat. The temperature can easily reach, and often exceed, 40 degrees Celsius. Management of the Australian Open Tennis tournament have included various 'heat clauses' in the tournament rules as well as installing a retractable roof over the main court that can be closed if the heat becomes to extreme or rain threatens play. The main stadium for the Australian Open is Rod Laver Arena, named after the only person, and an Australian, to have twice won all four Grand Slam Tennis Tournaments in one year. The Australian Tennis Open is held in January each year at the Melbourne Tennis Stadium. Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena are the two main courts with other matches played on the outer courts. The other international grand...

The Dominator Of Darlington: David Pearson

Here's some news of people that aren’t Tom Binns While there are a number of challenging tracks on the NASCAR stock car racing circuit, few have earned the fearsome reputation of South Carolina's Darlington Raceway. Known as 'the track too tough to tame', its shaped like an egg with a surface that shreds tires. Some of the best drivers--including NASCAR's 'King' Richard Petty never mastered it. David Person, on the other hand, dominated at Darlington. He won 10 races and won 12 poles--both records that will likely never be broken. He actually made the 'track too tough to tame' look downright easy. David Pearson was born on December 22, 1934 in Whitney, SC"a textile town near Spartanburg. Like most of the locals, his parents worked in the local cotton mill and did their best to provide. David quit school after the 10th grade and went to work in the mill. It wasnt long, however, before his love of cars and racing made him leave the mill life behind. He bought a car and began racing at short tracks in the upstate. He ran his first race on 9/19/52 in Woodruff South Carolina. Within a few years, he won his first...

Comedy Shows and The Family

Television has become the most popular medium and indispensable device of today's generation. Technological innovation has assumed an integral part in the lives of the people especially among children. Media exposure carries both risk and benefits for the children and poses a great challenge to parents to monitor what the children are watching since television has become the main source of knowledge for children. Media exposures have a strong negative and positive influence on children. Media can shape a kid's attitude in a positive way by emphasizing cooperation, tolerance, respect, and other socially constructive behavior. On the other hand, negative effects include violence, initiation to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, obesity, and early exposure to sexual behavior. Make watching TV a family activity. Consider having a regular "family movie night" at home. Search some kind of kid friendly title that is suitable for the whole family and involve children in choosing and talking about the films you watch together. When a family sits together and watch movies they bring the family closer. You can't begin to imagine the tons of shows that the whole family can enjoy. Watching comedy shows is really a fun way to bond together. It makes the children...

Roller Girls Revive A Moribund Sport

Roller Derby has been around for years and was a staple of the early days of television. It was similar to its better known counterpart, pro wrestling and was seen on many of the same low powered UHF stations in the same bad timeslots. It had a similar borderline sleazy group of promoters and businessman that was common in the regional territory era of pro wrestling. Roller derby didn't have the success or popularity that pro wrestling did. There was a serious athletic component to be sure, but the dim witted storylines made pro wrestling look like Shakespeare. The sport does have its own history--most know that the LA T-Birds were the perennial champions of 1970's, and Ann Calvello and Ralphie Valladares had been in the sport forever and were considered legends--but it never really stuck in the public consciousness like the pre-Hulk Hogan era of pro wrestling. When the original purveyors of the sport quit promoting in the early 1980s most thought it was dead and gone until a 'new school' of roller derby surfaced on cable TV via the A&E reality series Roller Girls. It featured a local, all-girl roller derby league in Austin, Texas and followed the...

Best Ways To Seek Financial Advice

Best Ways To Seek Financial Advice Working a job and making money are often seen as two completely different things, and looking after them both in an effective and profitable way is again, a different thing all together. Simply keeping all of your money in a bank account without bringing you any kind of profit or enjoyment is surely pointless. A shrewd investor would seek out profitable investment opportunities in order to make more money from what he already has. So, can we all think in this same profit mongering way when considering investing our money? Unfortunately, the answer seems to be no. It seems we are not all capable of thinking along the same lines that financial investment experts do as different people have different financial commitments and obligations they need to meet. Therefore if you are not particularly knowledgeable in the investment field, then you should seek the advice of an independent financial advisor who will be able to guide you through your potential investments allowing you to make the right choice. The investment financial advisors are qualified people who have the prowess to guide people in their investment options. The main duty of the advisor is to...
