About the character

Get well soon, everyone

Ivan Brackenbury is one of the most celebrated character creations in British comedy. Armed with a stack of jingles, a heart of gold and absolutely no editorial judgement, Ivan broadcasts to the patients of his local hospital with dedications and song choices that could not be less appropriate if he tried. He never tries. That's the tragedy. And the joke.

The live show earned Tom Binns a nomination for the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show in 2007, and the character went on to national radio segments, guest spots on The Jason Byrne Show, festival stages including Glastonbury, and a memorable appearance on Channel 4's 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown. Ivan anchored the BBC One mockumentary Hospital People, co-created, co-written and performed by Binns.
